Binghamton, NY (WBNG Binghamton) A Hair Salon in Binghamton won big but invited others along to share in part of their prize.

Reality TV star Tabatha Coffey of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover is visiting the salon.

But it has been a bitter sweet win for the owners.

Owner’s of Hair and Beyond, Annette Beagell and her daughter Stacy Birtch, beat out ten thousand other entries to win the Matrix Mannequin Mania contest.

“It’s been amazing we started in April and its just really brought together the salon as a team,” said Beagell.

The salon won a grand prize of $25,000 and a two day visit from Tv’s Tabatha Coffey of Tabatha’s Salon Takeover.

“It really just shows how much dedication, how much hard work went into the mannequin that here I am in Binghamton, New York,” said Coffey.

Coffey spent hours signing autographs, taking photos with fans, and even speaking to local beauty school students.

“For me,” Coffey said, “To just be able to inspire some of these young kids in beauty school give them a kick in the tail if they need to, I’ve already told them to spit out the gum really and you know really just work hard.”

Friday the owner’s will have a private lunch with Tabatha to hear tips and business advice for the salon.

But for Birtch and Beagell, this journey hasn’t just been about winning the contest or the money or even meeting a celebrity.

It has helped them grieve the loss of a loved one.

“My father had passed away from cancer and I was very upset and sad and I needed a distraction and it was perfect and it really helped me get through a very hard time in my life,” said Birtch.

The salon’s mannequin was named the “widower”, inspired by the death of Birtch’s father and Beagell’s former husband.

Beagell plans to use the prize money to pay medical bills and Birtch will put her share toward a vacation.

Tabatha will be at Hair and Beyond again tomorrow from 11:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M.

Birtch and Beagell say what started out as the worst year of their lives has turned out to be “pretty awesome.”
